Abstract:
Provided is a submerged arc welding method which produces little fume, has good weldability in terms of, for example, bead shape and slag removability, and is suitable for welding of a high Mn-containing steel material to be used in an ultralow-temperature environment. This submerged arc welding method is characterized in that during the welding, a wire, which has a composition comprising, by mass%, 0.20 to 0.80% of C, 0.15 to 0.90% of Si, 17.0 to 28.0% of Mn, 0.030% or less of P, 0.030% or less of S, 0.01 to 10.00% of Ni, 0.4 to 4.0% of Cr, 0.01 to 3.50% of Mo, 0.120% or less of N, and balance Fe and inevitable impurities, and a flux having a basicity [BL] of 1.5 to 2.4 are used in combination, and the amount of welding heat to be input is adjusted in accordance with a groove sectional area. Because of this, a high-strength weld metal having excellent ultralow temperature toughness can be easily produced, said weld metal having a 0.2% yield strength of 400 MPa or greater at normal temperature and achieving an absorption energy (vE -196) of 28 J or greater in a Charpy impact test.
