Abstract:

A plasma display comprising a pair of substrate glasses, discharge electrode disposed on the inner surface of the substrate glass, and a phosphor disposed between the glasses and emitting light upon discharge of the electrode. The substrate glass comprises by weight SiO�2?: 50 to 65 %, Al�2?O�3?: 2 to 15 %, MgO: 0 to 4 %, CaO: 0 to 2.9 %, SrO: 2 to 13 %, BaO: 0.5 to 13 %, MgO + CaO + SrO + BaO: 10 to 27 %, Li�2?O: 0 to 1 %, Na�2?O: 2 to 10 %, K�2?O: 2 to 13 %, Li�2?O + Na�2?O + K�2?O: 7 to 15 %, ZrO�2?: 1 to 9 %, TiO�2?: 0 to 5 %, Sb�2?O�3?: 0 to 1 %, and As�2?O�3?: 0 to 1 %. It causes little thermal shrinkage even when heat treated at a temperature of 570 �C or above and has a coefficient of thermal expansion of 75 to 95 x 10?-7�/ �C and a higher volume resistivity than and superior chemical resistance to soda lime glass.
