Abstract:

A sugar chain synthesizer provided with one or more reaction columns having a sugar chain transferase and&sol or a carbohydrate hydrolase immobilized therein&semi one or more separation means for separating a reaction product in the eluate from the reaction column(s) from unreacted by−products which are located in the downstream of the reaction column(s)&semi a first pump for feeding a water−soluble polymer primer and a buffer solution to the above−described reaction column(s) via a first control valve&semi a second pump for feeding a buffer solution and a sugar nucleotide solution into one of the above−described reaction column(s) via a second control valve&semi one or more circulatory channels for connecting a channel in the downstream of the above−described separation means to a channel in the upstream of each reaction column&semi and a third control valve for selectively connecting the separation means with an arbitrary circulatory channel which is located between the above−described separation means and one or more circulatory channels. Use of this synthesizer makes it possible to continuously and automatically synthesize even complicated sugar chains.
