Abstract:
A membrane-electrode structure for a solid polymer fuel cell which is excellent in hot water resistance, oxidation resistance and dimensional stability at low temperatures and can provide excellent power generation performance even under low-temperature environment. The membrane-electrode structure comprises a polymer electrolyte membrane comprising a sulfonation product of a polyarylene polymer comprising repeating units represented by general formula (1) and repeating units represented by general formula (1) wherein Y represents a divalent atom or organic group or a direct bond; and Ar represents an aromatic group, provided that the aromatic group includes its derivative.
