Abstract:
A superconductive cable withstand voltage test method enabling evaluation of the insulation characteristic of a superconductive cable in a coolant-filled state without filling the cable with a coolant. A superconductive cable under test is filled with a gas in place of a coolant and subjected to a withstand voltage test at normal temperature. Prior to the withstand voltage test, a preliminary withstand test is preferably performed. For the preliminary withstand voltage test, a first reference superconductive cable filled with a coolant under a predetermined pressure and a second reference superconductive cable filled with a gas under a predetermined pressure in place of a coolant are prepared. The first reference superconductive cable is subjected to a preliminary withstand voltage test at the coolant temperature, and the second one is subjected to a preliminary withstand voltage test at normal temperature to determine the correlation of the withstand voltage characteristic between the cables. The test voltage is determined according to the withstand voltage characteristic of the second reference superconductive cable. The withstand voltage test is carried out on this test voltage.
