Abstract:
A superhard alloy including a hard phase with WC as a main component and a binding phase with Co as a main component, wherein the hard phase has coarse WC particles having a particle size of 1.6 or more to less than 6.0 μm and fine WC particles having a particle size of less than 1.6 μm, the area ratio of the coarse WC particles is 20-35% by area of the total WC, the area ratio of the fine WC particles is 65-80% area of the total WC, the content X of the binding phase is 10-15% by mass of the whole superhard alloy, the average particle size of the coarse WC particles is within the range of 2 μm or more and less than 4 μm, and the average particle size Y of the fine WC particles satisfies the following formula (1): -0.065X + 1.20 ≤ Y ≤ -0.065X + 1.70.
