Abstract:
A surface acoustic wave element suitable for massproduction and stably exhibiting a favorable surface acoustic wave propagation performance at all time, and an environmental difference sensor using this element are disclosed. The surface acoustic wave element comprises a three-dimensional base (12) having a surface including continuous curved surfaces capable of propagating a surface acoustic wave and including at least a part of an annular curved surface and an electro-acoustic converting element (14) which generates a surface acoustic wave on the above surface, propagates the surface acoustic wave along the surface, and can receive the propagated surface acoustic wave. The surface acoustic wave is characterized in that the base is made of an Li2B4O7 crystal, a Bi12SiO20 crystal, an LiNbO3 crystal, an LiTaO3 crystal, or a berg crystal, the element propagates a surface acoustic wave along the line of intersection between the crystal face of the crystal and the surface, and the line of intersection is the maximum outer circumferential line (12b) of the surface. The environmental difference sensor compares surface acoustic wave received signals from electroacoustic converting elements on propagation surface bands of a surface acoustic wave element and senses the environmental difference in a spatial part where they are in contact with each other.
