Abstract:
A surface coated cutting tool, wherein a hard coating layer is formed by vapor deposition on the surface of a tool base, the composition of the hard coating layer is expressed by a composition formula: (AlxTi1-x)N (0.5≤x≤0.8), the average layer thickness of the hard coating layer is 0.5-7.0 μm inclusive, the hard coating layer is composed of crystal grains with an average grain diameter of 5-50 nm inclusive, in the hard coating layer, cubic crystal grains having a rock salt structure and hexagonal crystal grains having a wurtzite structure are mixed, and {200} of the cubic crystal grains and {11-20} of the hexagonal crystal grains are oriented perpendicular to the surface of the tool base.
