Abstract:
A surface light emitting device based on a light guide plate is disclosed. Light scattering elements are not provided in a peripheral edge region of a light guide plate, but are provided in a region to the inside thereof, so as to reduce the amount of light that escapes and is lost through the edge region which is covered by a frame cover, and increase light efficiency. A reflective sheet and the undersurface of the light guide plate are tightly adhered together either directly or by using a protective sheet in order to prevent moisture infiltration. Through this waterproof structure, the wet out phenomenon of light brightness speckling due to moisture infiltration is fundamentally blocked. Also, the light scattering elements are localized in some regions of the light guide plate, and the remaining regions are configured to be transparent. Accordingly, only desired regions of the light guide plate are illuminated, and the remaining regions are transparent so as to make the background visible. The surface light emitting device can be added to the window panes of buildings and used as light emitting means for displaying characters, symbols, pictures, and the like, at night.
