Abstract:
A surface light source device (10) comprises a light source (12), a light guide layer (14), a reflective layer (16), and a light modulation layer (18). The light guide layer (14) has: at least one incident surface (IS) that faces the light source (12); and two facing output surfaces (ES), a first output surface (ES1) and a second output surface (ES2), from which light (L) incident from the incident surface (IS) is output. The reflective layer (16) reflects the light (L) output from the first output surface (ES1) toward the light guide layer (14). The light modulation layer (18) is provided between the light source (12) and the incident surface (IS), and/or between the light guide layer (14) and the reflective layer (16), and changes transmittance in response to the applied voltage.
