Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing an effective method for surface treating discontinuous carbon fibers wherein said method exhibits a relatively small degree of diameter reduction (volume reduction and weight reduction) of carbon fibers subject to treatment, can be executed through simple operations, and has a small environmental load. The present invention is characterized in that discontinuous carbon fibers are treated with a treatment liquid in which ammonium
persulfate is substantially the only effective ingredient. The method of the present invention is additionally characterized in that the treatment liquid is an
aqueous solution of ammonium persulfate, and the discontinuous carbon fibers are immersed in the treatment liquid.
