Abstract:
The present invention relates to [1] a surfactant composition for emulsion polymerization obtained by compounding an anionic surfactant (A) represented by formula (I) and a specific anionic surfactant (C) and [2] a surfactant composition for emulsion polymerization obtained by further incorporating a nonionic surfactant (B) represented by formula (II) thereinto. These surfactant compositions attain excellent polymerization stability even when added in a small amount, and give polymer emulsions having small particle diameters. These surfactant compositions are capable of producing polymer emulsions excellent in terms of mechanical stability and chemical stability. (In the formulae, R1 to R5 and R6 to R10 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, or a specific aromatic group, at least one of these being the specific aromatic group; M+ indicates a hydrogen ion or a cation; and m and n are each 10-100.)
