Description:
Title: A suspension system for suspending and securing an object to a wall. Field of the invention

The present invention relates to a suspension system for suspending and securing an object to a wall comprising a securing member having supporting elements and a bearing element, an insertion member adapted to be attached to a wall surface and an attachment member adapted to be attached to the object both the insertion member and the attachment member comprise a body and a recess adapted to receive and secure the supporting elements of the securing member.

Background of the invention

The present invention relates to a suspension device for display of frames, mirrors and other objects, whereby the objects are supported by a wall surface.

Pictures and the like are hanged from a wall using a hook or nail attached to the wall and optionally a wire or holding device attached to the object.

US 2,709,055 discloses a suspension system comprising two members. The first member is to be attached to the wall and comprises a plate that is partly bent forward to form a void at a lower side of the plate and an aperture adapted for receiving a fastening device, such as a nail. The second member is also a sheet metal plate, which is bend to fit into the void of the first member and has an aperture for attachment to a back surface of an object.

US 2,885,166 discloses a suspension system comprising a hook for receiving a nail to be attached to the wall and to the hook, a plate having forwardly directed protrusions that are adapted to fit into indentations present on the back side of an object. By clamping the protrusions into the indentations, the hook, positioned on top of the metal plate, is fixedly secured to the object.

A common problem with suspension systems is that the objects are easily detached from the wall. A little push on the side of the object is often enough for the object to be removed from the wall and fall on a floor surface.

Several suspension systems have been developed to overcome this problem.

US5,899,427 discloses a system wherein a first member, which is attached to a wall, comprises an insertion space. A second member, which is attached to an object comprises a T-shaped element that is adapted to be fitted into the insertion space. This system fixes the position of an object in one dimension, i.e. in a vertical direction and prevents an object from becoming detached from a wall by a little push from an under side or upper side of an object. It does not prevent detachment in two or three dimensions.

Other prior art such as FR2950517, US1910864 and US20170037660 disclose suspension systems that comprise a first member to be attached to a wall and a second member to be attached to an object, whereby the first and second member are adapted to be fitted into each other. The known suspension systems are not flexible enough. The suspended objects detach still rather easily when pushed in at leat one direction. The known systems do not allow for correction in wrongly placed bore holes.

Object and summary of the invention

It is an object of the present invention to at least partly overcome the above mentioned problems, and to provide an improved suspension system for suspending an object to a wall. This object is achieved by a suspension system for suspending an object to a wall comprising or consisting of

- a securing member comprising a bearing element and two supporting elements positioned at each end of the bearing element, and

- an insertion member adapted to be attached to a wall surface comprising a body and a recess adapted to receive and secure the securing member. The system is characterized in that the system comprises an attachment member adapted to be attached to a surface of the object comprising a body and a recess adapted to receive and secure the securing member, whereby attachment member is positioned at the end of the bearing element opposite the insertion member, and

both the insertion member and the attachment member comprise a recess divided in a centra l portion positioned on a front side of the body and adapted to receive at least a portion of the securing member and a supporting portion positioned at an upper side of the body, in open communication with the central portion and adapted to receive the supporting elements of the securing member.

The support elements allow the bearing element to be moved at an angel from a longitudinal axis extending along the members of the system, in three dimensions below the insertion member and above the attachment member.

This means that the attachment member can be positioned at an angle or at a different position along the longitudinal axis in relation to the insertion member. This improves ease of use of the suspension system compared to the prior art systems, because the new suspension system can correct for incorrectly positioned holes in walls and/or on objects. When preparing a wall by boring a hole to receive a fastening device, it easily happens that the bored hole becomes slightly out of the originally intended position. The same is true for positioning a suspension system on an object. Thus, having a suspension system that allows for movement in three dimensions on two joints in the suspension system improves ease of use for the user, because the new suspension system ca n correct for misplaced positions of fastening devices on both walls and on objects.

An advantage of the system is that the object can easily be attached and detached from the wall using the system of the invention. The system provides for improved stability by fixating the two members in three dimensions and thereby preventing the object from falling from the wall. Hereby, the suspension system improves safety.

The system comprises only a few parts, which parts are easy to manufacture at low costs.

I n an aspect, the supporting elements are substantially ball-shaped. Ball shaped supporting elements further improve the flexibility of use of the suspension system.

In one aspect, the bearing element has a neck portion. The neck portion further improves this movability of the securing member in relation to the insertion member and the attachment member. The pivotability improves the ease in use of the suspension system when suspending an object to a wall.

I n one aspect, the supporting elements are ball-shaped and the neck portions are present between the supporting element and the bea ring element. The neck portion improves ease of inserting and fitting the securing member into the insertion member.

I n another aspect, the recesses are adapted to receive the neck portions of the bearing element and the supporting elements.

I n a further aspect, the supporting portion of the recesses are adapted to receive the neck portions of the bearing element and the supporting elements.

I n one aspect, the bearing element com prises at least two parts, one or two screw-part and one nut-part adapted to receive the screw part.

I n another aspect, the insertion member and the attachment member comprise a central aperture positioned on a back side of the body adapted to receive a fastening device.

I n a further aspect, a shape of the central portions and the supporting portions of the recesses are substantially complementary to a shape of the supporting elements and the bea ring element, respectively. . A complementary shape improves the fitting of the securing member in the insertion member and attachment member.

I n one aspect, the shape of the insertion member is identical to the shape of the attachment member. This design provides for a symmetric suspension system. This improves aesthetic appearance of the system and also improves ease of use for the system. This also reduces manufacturing costs.

I n another aspect, the shape of the insertion member and the attachment member are substantially U-shaped. In a further aspect, a heights of the front side is less than a heights of the back side of the insertion member and of the attachment member, respectively,.

In one aspect, a distance between the front sides and the back sides of the insertion member and attachment member, respectively, are adapted to receive the supporting element. In another aspect, a distance between the front sides and the back sides of the insertion member and attachment member, respectively, is at the most 2 mm larger than the width of the supporting elements.

In a further aspect, a shape of the central portion of the recess is adapted to receive the support elements of the securing member.

In one aspect, a shape of the central portion of the recess is complementary to the shape of the securing member.

In another aspect, a shape of the central portion of the recess is complementary to the shape of the neck portions of the bearing element and the supporting elements.

In a further aspect, the shape of the supporting portion of the recess is adapted to attach the insertion member and the attachment member to the securing member.

In one aspect, a shape of the supporting portion of the recess is complementary to the shape of the securing member.

In another aspect, a shape of supporting portion is complementary to the shape of the neck portions of the bearing element.

The invention also relates to a suspension system for suspending an object to a wall comprising

- a securing member adapted to be attached to a surface of the object comprising or consisting of a supporting element, and a bearing element, and

- an insertion member adapted to be attached to a wall surface comprising a body and a recess adapted to receive and secure the securing member. The system is characterized in that the recess is divided in a central portion positioned on a front side of the body and adapted to receive the bearing element of the securing member and a supporting portion positioned at an upper side of the body, in open communication with the central portion, and adapted to receive the supporting element of the securing member.

According to an aspect of the invention, the supporting element of the securing member is pivotable around a longitudinal axis when seated in the supporting portion of the recess of the insertion member.

In a further aspect, the bearing element comprises an attachment member positioned at an ending of the bearing element opposite the supporting element. I n another aspect, the securing member has a substantially T-shape form comprising a supporting element extending along a longitudinal axis of the securing member, and a bearing element extending substantially orthogonally in relation to the longitudinal axis.

Thus, the invention also relates to a suspension system comprising or consist of

- a securing member adapted to be attached to a surface of the object and having a substantially T-shape form comprising a supporting element extending along a longitudinal axis of the securing member, and a bearing element extending substantially orthogonally in relation to the longitudinal axis, and

- an insertion member adapted to be attached to a wall surface comprising a body and a recess adapted to receive and secure the securing member.

The system is characterized in that the recess is divided in a central portion positioned on a front side of the body and adapted to receive the bearing element of the securing mem ber and a supporting portion positioned at an upper side of the body, in open communication with the central portion, and adapted to receive the supporting element of the securing member. I n a n aspect, the bearing element comprises an attachment member positioned at a n ending of the bearing element opposite the supporting element and comprising an aperture for receiving a fastening device.

According to an aspect of the invention, the securing member is immovably attached to the insertion mem ber by insertion of the bearing element into the central portion of the recess. The central portion combined with the supporting portion may provide for a fixation of the securing member into the insertion member in any dimensions.

According to an aspect of the invention, the insertion mem ber comprises a centra l aperture extending from the central portion of the recess through a back side of the body and adapted to receive a fastening device. By positioning the aperture in the insertion member the fastening device will not be visual when the object hangs on the wall with help of the suspension system of the invention. This improves aesthetic appearance of the system.

According to an aspect of the invention, the insertion member comprises nails on a back side of the body adapted to penetrate through material of a wall surface. Nails provide for additional fastening means to attach the insertion member to the wall. The nails also prevent the insertion member to rotate around an axis extending through the aperture.

According to an aspect of the invention, the supporting portion of the recess is at least partly covered by a top on one side of the central portion, whereby the established aperture is adapted to receive a side of the supporting element of the securing member. Clamping the supporting element in the supporting portion of the recess prevents the securing mem ber from becoming detached from the insertion member. A cover or top over the supporting portion will further improve the fixation of the bearing member to the insertion member.

According to an aspect of the invention, a shape of the central portion and the supporting portion of the recess are substa ntially complementary to a shape of the supporting element and the bearing element, respectively, such that the insertion and securing member can be unmovably connected to each other

(a) and a perspective view (b). Detailed description of preferred aspects of the invention

Figures 7, 10 and 16b illustrate a suspension system for suspending an object 6 to a wall 7. The suspension system comprises two or three parts that are configured to collaborate and form a fit or a tight fit, when the part are connected or clamped together. The first part is a securing member 1 as shown in figure 5 and 12. The securing member may have a substantially T-shape form as shown in figure 5a, b. The securing member may also have a substantially U-shape. The securing member comprises a supporting element 3 that may extend along a longitudinal axis L of the securing member, and a bearing element 4 extending substantially orthogonally in relation to the longitudinal axis of the supporting element 3 as shown in figure 5 and 7. In the aspect of figure 12, the supporting element 3 is ball-shaped and the bearing element 4 comprises a neck-portion 4a attached to the supporting element as shown in figure 13 and 16a. An ending 3' of the bearing element 4 opposite the supporting element may be ball-shaped supporting element as shown in figure 12 and 16a.

The bearing element may be adapted to be attached to a surface 6a of the object 6 (see figure 8). For this purpose, an attachment member 5 positioned at an ending 3' of the bearing element 4 opposite the supporting element 3 as shown in figure 5 and 16a, b can be used. The attachment member 5 comprises at least one aperture 15 for receiving a fastening device lib, such as a screw or a nail.

The bearing element 4 may comprise of two parts, one screw-part 4c and one nut-part that can be screwed together, such that the length of the bearing element can be adapted. The bearing element 4 may comprise of three parts 4c, two screw-part at each end and one nut- part that can be screwed into the screw part 4c as shown in figure 12. This further improves the flexibility for the user to change the length of the bearing element and allow the bearing element to be positioned at an even larger angle in relation to the longitudinal axis LI, which extends along the suspension system in a vertical direction. The second part is an insertion member 2 adapted to be attached to a wall surface 7a as shown in figure 6, 8 and 10. The insertion member as shown in figures 1 to 4 and 12 to 16 comprises a body 8 and a recess 9. The recess is adapted to receive and secure the securing member 1. The recess may be divided in a central portion 9a and a supporting portion 9b. The central portion is positioned on a front side F of the body and adapted to receive the bearing element 4 of the securing member 1. The supporting portion is positioned at an upper side U of the body, (also called a bottom side of the body), in open communication with the central portion, and adapted to receive the securing member or the neck portion 4a of the bearing element 4, or the supporting element 3 or both the supporting element 3 and the neck portion 4a. The insertion member 2 comprises at least one central aperture 10. The aperture may extend from the front side F or the central portion 9a of the recess through a back side B of the body. The aperture may be positioned on a back side of the body. The aperture may be positioned above the front side in a vertical direction as shown in figure 13. The aperture is adapted to receive a fastening device 11a as shown in figures 8 and 9.

The insertion member may comprise nails 12 on the back side B of the body adapted to penetrate through material of a wall surface 7a as shown in figure 2, 3a and 3b. Nails may be used together with a fastening device 11a or instead of a fastening device.

The supporting portion 9b of the recess may be at least partly covered by a top 13 on one side of the central portion 9a as shown in figure 3b. Hereby, an aperture 14 is established. The supporting element 3 of the securing member 1 is adapted to fit in the aperture 14.

A shape of the central portion 9a may be substantially complementary to a shape of the bearing element 4. The shape of the supporting portion 9b may be substantially complementary to a shape of the supporting element 3. For example, the bearing and supporting elements may be circular cylindrical as illustrates in figure 6 and 7 and the recesses may be circular and having a diameter that is only slightly larger than the diameter of the elements such that the elements can be received in the recesses.

Alternatively, as shown in figures 12 to 16, the securing member may have a neck-portion with a supporting member in a ball-shape form, such that the central portion 9a has a complementary form of a circular opening with a neck-like opening extending from the circular opening to a bottom side of the insertion member. Figure 15 shows a further alternative, whereby the central portion 9a is adapted to receive a securing member comprising an about 45 ° bended neck-portion with a ball-shaped supporting element at its end.

Figures 7 and 8 illustrate how the securing member 1 can be immovably attached to the insertion member 2 by inserting the bearing element 4 into the central portion 9a of the recess. As illustrated in figure 9 and 11 the supporting element 3 of the securing member may be pivotable around the longitudinal axis L2 when seated in the supporting portion 9b of the recess of the insertion member 2.

Figure 10, 11 and 16 shows the suspension system having an insertion member 2 and attachment member 5 that are identical in shape. This allows for a symmetric suspension system. The attachment member may have the same recesses 9a', 9b' as the insertion member. The insertion member 2 and the attachment member 5 may comprise a central aperture 10, 15 on the back side B of the body 8, 8' adapted to receive a fastening device 11a. The shape of the central portions 9a, 9a' and the supporting portions 9b, 9b' of the recesses are substantially complementary to a shape of the supporting elements 3,3' and the bearing element 4. As shown in figures 5b, 10 and 16a.

The shape and/or size of the insertion member 2 may be identical to the shape of the attachment member 5. The size may be different. For small objects the size of the attachment member may be less than the size of the insertion member, and visa versa for larger objects. Also, the shape may be different. For suspension of certain objects, the shape of the attachment member may need to be adjusted. The shape of the insertion member 2 and/or the attachment member 5 may be substantially U-shaped. As shown in figure 14a, a height h,h' of the front side F of the insertion member 2 and/or the attachment member 5 may be less than a height H, H of the back side B of said members 2,5 as shown in figure 14a. The length of height h of the front side may be 60% or 50% of the height H of the back side.

Further, a distance d,d' between the front sides F,F' and the back sides B, B' are adapted to receive the supporting elements 3,3' as shown in figures 12 and 14a. Preferably the distance d, d' is at the most 2 mm, or 1 mm, or 0.5mm, or 0.25 mm, or 0.1 mm larger than the width dd, dd' of the supporting elements 3,3'.

The shape of the central portion of the recess 9a, 9a' is adapted to receive the support elements 3,3' of the securing member 1. The shape of the central portion of the recess may be complementary to the shape of the securing member. The shape of the central portion of the recess 9a, 9a' may be complementary to the shape of the neck portions 4a, 4b of the bearing element 4 and/or the supporting elements 3, 3'. The shape of the supporting portion of the recess 9b, 9b' is adapted to attach the insertion member 2 and the attachment member 5 to the securing member 1. The shape may be complementary to the shape of the securing member. The shape of supporting portion 9b, 9b' may be complementary to the shape of the neck portions 4a, 4b of the bearing element 4. The present invention is not limited to the aspects disclosed but may be varied and modified within the scope of the following claims. For example, instead of a central aperture 10 in the insertion member, a hook may be provided on the insertion member through which a fastening device can be received to attach the insertion member to the wall.
