Abstract:
Reported is a method in which by chemically extending the carbon chain of an unsaturated fatty acid, the unsaturated fatty acid is converted into a different unsaturated fatty acid. In the present invention, a carbon chain extension reaction is completed using a shorter reaction process and in a shorter time than in conventional methods. Provided is a method for extending the carbon chain of an unsaturated fatty acid by 2 carbon atoms, the method including a four-stage process of a short path transformation reaction into a malonic acid ester derivative of an unsaturated fatty acid chain obtained from an unsaturated fatty acid and heating the malonic acid ester derivative to reflux in a solution of a lower fatty acid. In this method, a carbon chain extension reaction can be completed in a shorter time.
