Abstract:
This system for producing magnesium hydroxide is provided with a production section and a recovery section connected to the production section. The production section has a reaction tank and a sedimentation tank. At the reaction tank, a calcium hydroxide slurry is added to a magnesium ion-containing water to be treated, causing the crystallization of magnesium hydroxide and yielding a reaction slurry containing magnesium hydroxide particles. At the sedimentation tank, the reaction slurry is held in residence and the particles are sedimented to carry out separation into a separation slurry containing particles at a higher concentration and a separation liquid containing particles at a lower concentration. The recovery section carries out the following: formation of a reaction slurry by the addition of an alkali aqueous solution to the separation liquid to cause the crystallization of magnesium hydroxide; then residence of the reaction slurry to carry out particle sedimentation; and recovery of the sedimented particles.
