Title:
TANNING AGENT FOR SKINS AND METHOD OF OBTAINING IT
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1982/004071
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A tanning agent for skins characterized in that it contains the following components in% by weight: 3-20% of aluminium and ammonium sulphate, containing 0.001 to 1.0% of TiO2 or TiO2 and ZrO2; and/or 20-50% of zirconium and ammonium sulphate, containing 0.001 to 10% of TiO2 or TiO2 and Al2O3; the balance being titanyl and ammonium sulphate, containing 0.001 to 1.0% of Al2O3 and/or ZrO2. The above additives of TiO2, ZrO2 and Al2O3 contained in the sulphates are in a chemically bound state. A method of obtaining the tanning agent provides that a titanium-containing solution, which contains 80 to 200 g/l of titanium as recalculated for its dioxide is reacted with an aluminium sulphate-containing solution, which contains 80 to 130 g/l of aluminium as recalculated for its oxide, and/or with a zirconium sulphate-containing solution, which contains 50 to 200 g/l of zirconium as recalculated for its dioxide, the reaction being carried out in the presence of sulphuric acid and ammonium sulphate. The sulphate-containing tanning agent can be widely used in the leather industry.
