Abstract:
Provided are a temperature detection device and method that enable simple and more accurate detection of whether abnormal heating is occurring to conveyor belts. This invention involves ascertaining in advance correlation data R between an electrical resistance value of a passive-type IC tag 2 embedded in a conveyor belt 13 and the temperature of the IC tag 2 when the passive IC tag 2 is activated through reception of an outgoing radio wave W1 from a non-contact detector 7 by the IC tag 2. The electrical resistance value data when the IC tag 2 is activated is received by the detector 7 through a reply radio wave W2 that is returned from the IC tag 2 in response to the outgoing radio wave W1 sent from the detector 7 to the IC tag 2 embedded in the running conveyor belt 13. On the basis of the received electrical resistance value data and the correlation data R, a calculation unit 8 calculates the temperature at the position where the IC tag 2 is embedded in the conveyor belt 13.
