Disclosed are a tension maintenance unit of a caterpillar apparatus and a caterpillar apparatus having same. The tension maintenance unit of the caterpillar apparatus of the present invention comprises: a rotation direction selection unit that has a first one-way bearing unit having a first one-way bearing connected to a first rotating member of a caterpillar main body, and a second one-way bearing unit having a second one-way bearing connected to a second rotating member of the caterpillar main body; and a drive unit that transmits power to the first one-way bearing unit and the second one-way bearing unit, wherein when the caterpillar main body moves in the forward direction, the caterpillar main body is driven by the power of the second one-way bearing, and the first one-way bearing rotates freely to prevent the tension of a caterpillar member provided in the caterpillar main body from loosening, and when the caterpillar main body moves in the reverse direction, the caterpillar main body is driven by the power of the first one-way bearing, and the second one-way bearing rotates freely to prevent the tension of the caterpillar member from loosening, and wherein the rotation direction selection unit is coupled to a drive unit's output shaft provided in the drive unit and receives power.
