Title:
THERAPEUTIC AGENT FOR TRAUMATIC NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2012/074043
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Provided is a novel drug for treating traumatic neurological disorders, i.e., traumatic brain injury or brain injury and/or spinal cord injury associated with brain surgery. As the results of studies on the relation between an external physical force applied on the brain and HMGB1, it was found for the first time that HMGB1, which existed in the nucleus of nerve cells in the normal state, was released to the outside of the nucleus of nerve cells at a damaged site or neighborhood tissues. Based on this finding, it was also clarified that motility disturbance caused by traumatic brain injury or brain injury and/or spinal cord injury associated with brain surgery can be ameliorated by capturing HMGB1 having been released from the nucleus of nerve cells, thereby completing the present invention.
