Abstract:
A device for measuring the area of longitudinally running strands, especially threads (14), with a feeler (5) sliding under spring loading on the surface of the strand or thread which is coupled to a movement sensor (4) to detect its deflections caused thereby and is designed in such a way that it can follow projections and depressions on the surface of the thread, the output signals from the movement sensor being taken to an evaluation unit, in which the feeler can be elastically deflected along and across the direction of travel of the thread, possibly with a combination of movement components and paths perpendicular and transverse to and in along the direction of travel of the thread, and is otherwise held rigidly or immovably.
