Abstract:
Disclosed is a three-dimensional-image display device that can reduce crosstalk and with which high-resolution images or bright images can be selected. Specifically disclosed is a three-dimensional-image display device which comprises a liquid crystal display (3) including first image-forming regions (21) and second image-forming regions (22) that are alternately disposed and each of which includes a bundle of horizontal lines; and a phase plate (8) including first polarizing regions (31) and second polarizing regions (32) that are formed of quarter-wave plates, that have the same size as the first image-forming regions (21) and the second image-forming regions (22), respectively, and that are disposed at positions corresponding to the first image-forming regions (21) and the second image-forming regions (22), respectively. The first image-forming regions (21) display images for the right eye, and the second image-forming regions (22) display images for the left eye. The image regions that display the images for the right eye and those for the left eye are alternately switched or overwritten each time frames are switched. In this manner, frame images including the images for the right eye and those for the left eye at the same time are displayed. When the first and second image-forming regions (21, 22) that display the images for the right and left eyes, respectively, are alternately switched, lighting of a backlight (2) is controlled in accordance with the timing of switching, and phase difference states of polarizing glasses (10) are alternately switched between right and left.
