Title:
TOROIDAL CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1998/044279
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
In a toroidal continuously variable transmission, when solenoid valves constituting a gear ratio control valve electrically fails, the danger during the traveling of the vehicle is averted by shifting the gear ratio toward the higher speed side, and the fluctuation brought about by the control hydraulic pressure of the solenoid valves upon a spool valve is canceled. The two solenoid valves for controlling the hydraulic pressures working upon the two ends of the gear ratio control valve having the spool valve are either normally-open or normally-closed directional control valves differing in type from each other, and duties (A, B) imposed upon the two solenoid valves are set to the same value (S11). Even if either of the solenoid valves electrically fails, the gear ratio in the toroidal speed change section shifts toward the higher speed side which is the safe side for the traveling of the vehicle. Since the duty signal to one of the solenoid valves is so outputted (S14) by the timer count (S13) that the phases of the solenoid valves are shifted from each other by 180, the fluctuation which the control hydraulic pressures working upon the two ends of the gear ratio control valve bring to the spool valve is canceled.
