Abstract:
A torque converter lock-up device that, even if a front cover thereof deforms as a result of an increase in internal torque converter pressure, the entire surface of a friction member can come in contact with a friction surface on the front cover. This device comprises the friction surface (2b) formed on the front cover (2), a clutch disc (28) pressure-welded to the friction surface (2b), a piston (30), and a pressure plate (29). The piston (30) is arranged between the front cover (2) and a turbine (4). The pressure plate (29) is arranged between the piston (30) and the clutch disc (28) and presses the clutch disc (28) to the front cover (2) side as a result of the pressing force from the piston (30). The pressure plate (29) has a lower bending rigidity than the bending rigidity of the piston (30) and is capable of deforming in accordance with the deformation of the front cover (2), when pushed to the front cover (2) side by the piston (30).
