Abstract:
The purpose of the invention is, with respect to a lockup device adapted to achieve a large twist angle, to reduce the number of parts constituting the device and shorten the entire axial length of the torque converter. This lockup device comprises a piston (10) that freely moves in the axial direction and onto which a friction member (20) is fixed to the outer circumference, one clutch plate (15) into which torque is input from the piston (10), one side plate (16) which is disposed mutually rotatably with the clutch plate (15) and is linked to a turbine, a plurality of torsion springs (17) elastically coupling the clutch plate (15) and the side plate (16) in the rotational direction, and an intermediate plate (18). The intermediate plate (18) is disposed in between the clutch plate (15) and the side plate (16) in the axial direction to be mutually rotatable with both plates (15, 16), and causes two torsion springs (17) to act in series.
