Abstract:
A transverse type induction heating device for heating a material to be rolled (1) by inductors (2, 3) to which power is supplied from an ac power supply (4), wherein the inductors (2, 3) are disposed on the plate-width center line of the material to be rolled (1) so that the iron core width, in the plate-width direction of the material to be rolled (1), of the inductors (2, 3) is made smaller than the plate-width of the material to be rolled (1), and the heating frequency of the ac power supply (4) is set so that a current penetration depth &dgr in the expression (1) satisfies the expression (2) when a current penetration depth is &dgr (m), the specific resistance of the material to be rolled (1) &rgr (&ohm - m), the magnetic permeability of the material (1) μ (H/m), the heating frequency of the ac power supply (4) f (Hz), a circle ratio &pgr and the plate thickness of the material (1) tw (m). &dgr = &lcub &rgr /(μ · f · &pgr )&rcub 1/2 -------(1) (tw/&dgr ) < 0.95 --------(2)
