Hederagenin derivatives represented by general formula (1) and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, and a medicinal composition containing the same as the active ingredient and being efficacious in treating nephritis, wherein R1 represents OR11 or NR11R12, and R11 and R12 represent each independently hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted cycloalkyl, optionally substituted alkenyl, optionally substituted alkynyl, optionally substituted aryl or optionally substituted heteroaryl; R2 and R3 represent each independently hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted cycloalkyl, optionally substituted alkenyl, optionally substituted alkynyl, optionally substituted acyl, optionally substituted monoalkylcarbamoyl, optionally substituted dialkylcarbamoyl or optionally substituted alkoxycarbonyl, or alternatively R2 and R3 are combined together to represent carbonyl.
