CLAIMS :-

1 A 2D magnetic insect screen, with all side perimeter magnetic strips held at right angles to a mesh screen, by purpose fabricated or molded plastic corner pieces adhered internally at all four corners, to reinforce each corner, to form a rectangular or any other geometrical shaped mesh screen in two dimensions, for use on any style of window and expressly for all windows with internal opening sashes.

2 A 2D magnetic insect screen as claimed in claim 1, including a pair of purpose fabricated or molded plastic corner pieces, formed at right angles to each other, adhered at the corners to a Designer strip, to reinforce each corner, but causing an enclosed bottom section of perimeter magnetic strip, between left hand and right hand corner pieces to rotate at ninety degrees with respect to the other three sides.

3 A 2D magnetic insect screen as claimed in claim 1, including a pair of purpose fabricated or molded plastic corner pieces formed at right angles to each other, adhered at the corners, to a Designer strip, to reinforce each corner, thus giving the ability to rotate any side, left hand side, right hand side Or top side from the vertical plane onto the horizontal plane being ninety degrees with respect to any of the other sides.

4 A 2D magnetic insect screen as claimed in claim 1, including a purpose fabricated or extruded flexible magnetic strip, adhered to a rubber water proofing window seal, acting as a base keeper magnet, on all four sides, to hold the mesh screen onto these keepers so as to hold the mesh screen in correct symmetry to allow an internal window sash to close onto the mesh screen and into a window frame space without impeding the movement of the window sash in any way.

5 A 2D magnetic insect screen as claimed in claim 1, including wherein the mesh screen is replaced with any suitable flexible shade cloth, fabric, or other such cloth to make a sun blind, solar screen or similar style shade screen.

Description:
TWO DIMENSIONAL MAGNETIC INSECT SCREEN

Field of the Invention

This invention relates to a magnetic or similar insect screen that is set in two dimensions so that it can be installed on a flat plane together with a plane at any other angle up to ninety degrees with the first flat plane.

Background to the Invention

For many years all insect screens have been fixed to the window frames on the inside or the outside, have required a flat area to fix onto, in one plane. If there were three sides but the fourth side (assume the bottom) was missing or not in the same plane as the other three sides, then a purpose built piece of aluminum, wood or plastic had to be inserted to achieve the last flat plane, to complete the fixing rectangle in the same plane as the other three sides. This has added additional costs to the installation of insect screens.

Field of the Invention

According to the invention there is provided a 2D magnetic insect screen, with all side perimeter magnetic strips held at right angles to a mesh screen, by purpose fabricated or molded plastic corner pieces adhered internally at all four corners, to reinforce each corner, to form a rectangular or any other geometrical shaped mesh screen in two dimensions, for use on any style of window and expressly for all windows with internal opening sashes.

The 2D magnetic insect screen can include a pair of purpose fabricated or molded plastic corner pieces, formed at right angles to each other, adhered at the corners to a Designer strip, to reinforce each corner, but causing an enclosed bottom section of perimeter magnetic strip, between left hand and right hand corner pieces to rotate at ninety degrees with respect to the other three sides. The 2D magnetic insect screen can also include a pair of purpose fabricated or molded plastic corner pieces formed at right angles to each other, adhered at the corners, to a Designer strip, to reinforce each corner, thus giving the ability to rotate any side, left hand side, right hand side or top side from the vertical plane onto the horizontal plane being ninety degrees with respect to any of the other sides.

The 2D magnetic insect screen can also include a purpose fabricated or extruded flexible magnetic strip, adhered to a rubber water proofing window seal, acting as a base keeper magnet, on all four sides, to hold the mesh screen onto these keepers so as to hold the mesh screen in correct symmetry to allow an internal window sash to close onto the mesh screen and into a window frame space without impeding the movement of the window sash in any way.

The mesh screen of the 2D magnetic insect screen can be replaced with any suitable flexible shade cloth> fabric, or other such cloth to make a sun blind, solar screen or similar style shade screen.

Further aspects of the invention will become apparent in the following description which is given in the following examples.

Description of the Drawings

An example of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanied drawings in which:

Figure 1: shows a perspective view from the side of an example of the 2D screen.

Figure 2: shows a front elevation of an example of the 2D screen.

Figure 3: shows a side elevation of an example of the 2D screen.

Figure 4: shows exploded apart the connection between an example of the 2D screen and the lower fixing frame magnet and rubber substrate assembly.

Figure 5: shows exploded apart a perspective view of the 2D screen. Figure 6: shows exploded apart a perspective view of the 2D screen.

Figure 7: shows exploded apart a perspective view of the 2D screen.

Description of the Examples

In the example is shown a perspective view (Fig 1) from the side of an example of the 2D screen together with plan & isometric views. The 2D screen is similar to the standard insect screen as described in Patent Number 226719 (expired), but is modeled in two dimensions. The 2D screen comprises of a lower fixing frame keeper magnet Fig 4[1] which is adhered to the rubber substrate[2] or flat surface surrounding the window frame. The screen side that comprises the flexible side Fig 5 [4,5] has the insect screen mesh[3] laminated between the Designer strip [4] made of plastic, metal or similar material and the screen magnet [5]. The screen as shown in Fig 1 is placed in position over the matching frame keeper magnets[l] so that all four sides are in contact with all four sides of the frame keeper magnets[l]. This seats the magnetic insect screen in perfect symmetry with the frame keeper magnets[l] and applies the correct tension on the screen. The screen is held in alignment by the specially designed corners pieces Fig 1 [6] that can be either in one flat plane, or be in 2 planes at right angles to each other[7-fig7] or in 2 planes with one part flat plane and one part rotated at right angles to it[7-figl]. The value of this screen is that it is so flexible in its performance as to be able to fit to a wide variety of window frames and be fitted to all internal opening windows which have previously be impossible to screen from the inside.

Advantages of the invention are that it eliminates the need to add on extra members to achieve fixing on one face, in multiple planes. This allows screening of windows that were previously not able to be screened with concealed screens. The style of window is the type that the window sash opens inwards into the room space, like a door, so the screen could not be fixed to the inside as per standard magnetic insect screens. However with the invention of the 2D screen these windows are now possible to screen. An example of this type of window would be the German "Wink Haus" window mechanism, fitted to "Sorpetaler" brand wood windows, that allows the window frame to be opened like a door by turning the handle in one direction, then by turning the handle in the other direction, allowing the window to crank back at the top for minimal ventilation. With the invention of the 2D screen, a 2D screen can be fitted to this window by fixing the holding base magnet keeper onto the existing water proof rubber gasket set a right angle to the screen so that the mesh can pass in front of the inner frame but behind the outer fixed frame of the window. This same idea can be applied to other inwards opening windows if space allows.
