Title:
TYRE WITH PLURAL VALVES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2023/023787
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The invention relates to tyres having two valves (12, 13) at different or diametrically opposed location for inflation. The addition of a second tyre valve placed diametrically opposite the traditional valve gives the extra option of valve access when the other valve is inaccessible due to malfunction or through a physical barrier such as mud or sand. Providing two valve locations also facilitates access to the valves.

CLAIMS

1 . A vehicle tyre including valves for inflation or deflation, the valves being positioned such that in use one valve may be selected by a user for ease of access.

2. A vehicle tyre according to claim 1 wherein there are two valves.

3. A vehicle tyre according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the valves are diametrically opposed.

Description:
TYRE WITH PLURAL VALVES

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] THIS INVENTION relates to inflation or deflation of tyres in road vehicles.

BACKGROUND

[0002] Tyres need to be inflated and in some circumstances deflated. This is usual when off road as different tyre pressures may be preferred depending on driving conditions. For example, a lower pressure may be preferred in sand.

[0003] Moreover, it may simply be desirable to provide easy access to a valve for the aged or infirm.

OUTLINE

[0004] In one aspect there is provided a vehicle tyre including valves for inflation or deflation, the valves being positioned such that in use one valve may be selected by a user for ease of access.

[0005] Preferably, there are two valves and more preferably, the valves are diametrically opposed.

[0006] Preferably, the invention relates to tyres having two valves at different or diametrically opposed locations for inflation. The addition of a second tyre valve placed diametrically opposite the traditional valve gives the extra option of valve access when the other valve is inaccessible due to malfunction or through a physical barrier such as mud or sand. Providing two valve locations also facilitates access to the valves.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0007] In order that the present invention may be more readily understood and put into practical effect reference will now be made to the accompanying drawing which illustrates preferred embodiments of the invention and wherein:- Figure 1 is a drawing illustrating a wheel with a tyre according to the present invention showing the wheel where a lower one of the valves is inaccessible.

METHOD OF PERFORMANCE

[0008] Referring to the drawings there is illustrated a wheel 10 having a tyre 11 with valves 12 and 13, in this example being diametrically opposed..

[0009] In this example the wheel is partially buried in sand or mud 14 making access to valve 13 difficult. Thus a user may choose to utilise the other valve 12. The lower valve 13 may be clogged. The upper valve will be “kinder” being higher for those with bad backs and also for elderly folk.

[0010] It will further be appreciated that for ordinary road use for the aged or infirm, for example, a person with a “bad back” wanting to check their types, the valve 12 is more accessible. It will be further understood that practically whenever one of the valves is lower than a line taken through the axle 15 and parallel to the ground, that the other valve will always be higher and usually in a more accessible and convenient position.

[0011] In summary, the preferred form is for the addition of a second tyre valve placed diametrically opposite the traditional valve giving the extra option of valve access when the other valve is inaccessible due to malfunction or through a physical barrier such as mud or sand. It will also facilitate access for the aged or infirm. This will also be particularly advantageous to off-road enthusiasts.

[0012] Whilst the above has been given by way of illustrative example many variations and modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the broad ambit and scope of the invention as herein set out in the appended claims.
