Abstract:
Disclosed is an underwater antifouling material containing polyglycolic acid obtained by ring-opening polymerisation of 70-100 wt% glycolide and 30-0 wt% of another cyclic monomer. The polyglycolic acid is characterised in that: (a) weight-average molecular weight is 30,000-800,000; (b) molecular weight distribution, representing the ratio (Mw/Mn) of weight-average molecular weight (Mw) and number average molecular weight (Mn), is 1.5-4.0; (c) terminal carboxyl group concentration is 6-200eq/106g; (d) residual glycolide quantity is 0.2 wt% or less; and (e) starting temperature for 1% thermal weight reduction is 210°C or greater; and further, preferably, (f) the melt viscosity maintenance ratio, defined as the ratio [(η60/η0)x100] of the degree of initial melt viscosity (η0) measured after maintaining at 250°C for 5 minutes and the degree of melt viscosity (η60) measured after maintaining at 250°C for 60 minutes, is 40% or greater. Also disclosed are a moulded article thereof, a coating material and a laminated body.
