Abstract:
[Problem] To improve reliability while enhancing discrimination performance. [Solution] A validation unit (18) is provided with: an upper transportation guide (34U) on which is formed an upper transportation surface (34AU) that is disposed on one side of a transportation path (32) on which a banknote travels when the banknote is transported, said upper transportation surface (34AU) facing the transportation path (32); a magnetic sensor (52) in which a magnetic senor reading surface (52A) for reading the state of the banknote is provided further toward the upper transportation guide (34U) relative to the transportation path (32); and a lower transportation guide (34D) on which is formed a lower transportation surface (34AD) that is disposed on the other side of the transportation path (32) so as to face the upper transportation guide (34U) across the transportation path (32). The lower transportation guide (34D) forms a banknote transportation space (35) between the lower transportation guide (34D) and the upper transportation guide (34U), and has formed thereon, at a position facing the magnetic sensor reading surface (52A), a lower bend part (34CD), which is a bend part that bends in a direction away from the magnetic sensor reading surface (52A) relative to positions that do not face the magnetic sensor reading surface (52A).
