Abstract:
A valve timing control device for an internal combustion engine is provided with a lock mechanism 4 capable of restricting a relative rotation position of a vane rotor 9 with respect to a housing 7. The lock mechanism has a lock hole 24 that is provided on an internal surface of a sprocket, a lock pin 26 that is movably accommodated inside a pin hole 31a provided in the vane rotor and insertable into the lock hole, and a lock passage 39 that is provided in the vane rotor and communicates with the lock hole in a state in which the lock pin is inserted into the lock hole. The lock passage is provided with a general passage part 39a and one-end opening part 39b that is formed on one end side facing the lock hole of the general passage part, wherein an opening cross-sectional area of the one-end opening part is greater than a passage cross-sectional area of the general passage part. With these configurations, it is possible to reduce the passage length of a supply and discharge passage to improve the unlocking response of the lock pin and the insertion of the lock pin into the lock hole.
