Abstract:
This variable-geometry turbocharger comprises a turbine rotor, a housing that houses the turbine rotor, and a variable nozzle unit that is housed within the housing. The variable nozzle unit comprises nozzle vanes that are positioned in the flow path of a gas that is introduced to the turbine rotor, a nozzle ring that rotatably supports the nozzle vanes, and a driving unit that is located on the opposite side from the nozzle vanes with the nozzle ring interposed therebetween, and causes the nozzle vanes to rotate. The housing comprises a driving chamber that houses the driving unit, and a fluid flow passage that is in communication with the interior of the driving chamber. The driving chamber comprises an inner peripheral facing surface that faces an outer peripheral section of the driving unit, and the surface roughness of a flow passage surface of the fluid flow passage is greater than the surface roughness of at least a region of the inner peripheral facing surface, said region being connected to the fluid flow passage.
