Title:
VARIABLE SWIRL SUCTION DEVICE FOR ENGINES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1987/001160
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A variable swirl suction device (24) is adapted to control a swirl of the suction air in a cylinder (22) in an engine. This variable swirl suction device (24) is provided with a suction port (25) which has an inlet portion (25c) formed in a cylinder head (23) in the engine and extending from a side surface of the cylinder head (23), and a vortex chamber (25b) formed so as to be communicated with the inlet portion (25c) and apply a swirling force to the air current entering the inlet portion (25c); a suction valve (26) set on the lower surface of the cylinder head (23) and adapted to open and close the vortex chamber (25b) and cylinder (22) in the engine with respect to each other; a swirl control passage (28) opened at one end thereof into the portion of the vortex chamber (25b) which is closer to the inlet portion (25c) with respect to a line connecting the axis, which extends in the sliding direction of a piston, of the cylinder (22) and the axis of the suction valve (26), and at the other end thereof in a side surface of the cylinder head (23); and a control unit (29) adapted to control the entry of air into the swirl control passage (28). According to this variable swirl suction device (24), the rate of generation of NOx and fuel consumption can be reduced by controlling a swirl of the fluid sucked into the engine in accordance with the operational condition of the engine.
