Abstract:
A variable valve gear and a method of adjusting valve opening rates capable of accurately
controlling the rate of air and the intensity of swirl flow in cylinders. The variable
valve gear comprises a valve gear mechanism capable of taking a both valve variable
state in which the valve opening rates of both a first valve and a second valve of
a same type installed in a same cylinder are continuously or stepwise varied.
A difference is so given between the valve opening rates of these both valves that
the valve opening rate of the first valve is larger than the valve opening rate
of the second valve when the both valves are minimally opened in the variable state.
When the valves are minimally opened, the valve opening rates of the first valves
are adjusted to be equal to each other between cylinders.
