A vehicle control device (110) mounted in a vehicle (10) that comprises a high-precision sensor for detecting a preceding vehicle, and a low-precision sensor for detecting the preceding vehicle and having a greater distance at which a preceding vehicle can be detected and a lower distance-measurement precision compared to the high-precision sensor, said vehicle control device (110) comprising a control unit (111) that uses at least one of first detection information that is detection information from the high-precision sensor and second detection information that is detection information from the low-precision sensor to perform following control for controlling the vehicle such that the vehicle does not collide with the preceding vehicle. When performing the following control using only the second detection information, the control unit reduces the degree of change in the vehicle control based on the second detection information in comparison with when performing the following control using the first detection information.
