Abstract:
This vehicle door drive device causes an opening/closing operation of a vehicle door by causing the rotation of an output member by decelerating the rotation of an input member rotated by a motor by means of a first epicyclic gear mechanism, and then transmitting the rotation to the output member. The vehicle door drive device is provided with a second epicyclic gear mechanism that is provided at the power transmission pathway between the input member and the output member, and that has: a sun gear; a ring gear that encircles the sun gear; a planetary gear that meshes with the sun gear and the ring gear; and a carrier that can rotate with the rotation of the planetary gear. The vehicle door drive device is provided with: a load acquisition unit that acquires the magnitude of the load acting on the output member as a quantity of mechanical operation; and a switching unit. The switching unit causes the integrated rotation of the sun gear, ring gear, planetary gear, and carrier in the second epicyclic gear mechanism when the load acquired by the load acquisition unit is less than a set value, and allows the rotation of the carrier while preventing the rotation of everything else other than whichever of the sun gear and the ring gear is inputting driving force to the second epicyclic gear mechanism when the load exceeds the set value.
