In response to selection/operation of a shift lever from a P range to a non-parking range when a mechanical oil pump is stopped (S9), a control unit, upon determining that the vehicle inclination is smaller than a predetermined inclination angle (No in S10), exerts control (S12) such that a cancelling hydraulic pressure is supplied to a hydraulic actuator on the basis of a hydraulic pressure produced by an electric oil pump. Upon determining that the vehicle inclination is greater than the predetermined inclination angle (Yes in S10), the control unit drives a mechanical oil pump (S14, S15) and exerts control (S16) such that a cancelling hydraulic pressure generated from a hydraulic pressure produced by the mechanical oil pump is supplied to the hydraulic actuator. In this way, when the vehicle inclination is less than the predetermined inclination angle, the need for driving the mechanical oil pump is eliminated, thus improving fuel economy (electricity economy). When the vehicle inclination is greater than the predetermined inclination angle, hydraulic pressure supply is performed by the mechanical oil pump, whereby the need for increasing the size of the electric oil pump can be eliminated.
