This HUD device (1) has the following: a stowing case (6); an illumination device (2); a combiner (3); a combiner-moving mechanism (33) that moves said combiner (3) between a stowed position in which the combiner (3) is stowed inside the stowing case so as to cover the top of the illumination device (2) and a deployed position in which the combiner (3) protrudes from the stowing case (6) through an opening (62a); a driving motor (32) that transmits mechanical power to the combiner-moving mechanism (33) so as to move the combiner (3); a light shield (5) that blocks unneeded light; and a light-shield-moving mechanism (50) that moves said light shield (5) between a retracted position that is positioned so as to correspond to the stowed position of the combiner (3) and a normal position that is positioned so as to correspond to the deployed position of the combiner (3). The light-shield-moving mechanism (50), which is connected to the combiner-moving mechanism (33) such that mechanical power can be transmitted from said combiner-moving mechanism (33), moves the light shield (5) in conjunction with the movements of the combiner (3). This makes it possible to set the light shield (5) appropriately as the combiner (3) is deployed.
