In one embodiment, a ventilation system comprises a ventilation apparatus and a processor. The ventilation apparatus comprises: a housing; a first inlet; a second inlet; a first outlet; a second outlet; a plurality of dampers; a total heat exchanger; and a heat exchanger. When the processor operates in a heat exchanger cleaning mode or a total heat exchanger drying mode in a ventilation mode, an air flow path for air flowing through the housing is changed from an intake flow path and an exhaust flow path. Indoor air is introduced into the housing through the first outlet, passes through the heat exchanger, passes through the total heat exchanger, and is discharged to the outdoor space through the second outlet.
