In this video display device having a liquid crystal display panel, uneven brightness of the display screen due to the backlight unit are reduced. In the perpendicular direction and horizontal direction of the display screen, the backlight unit has multiple light-guide plate assemblies, and the light-guide plate assemblies have multiple light-guide plate units. When an LED emits primary light in the direction perpendicular to the display screen, then, in two light-guide plate assemblies adjacent to each other in the vertical direction, the primary light is emitted in a direction other than the vertical direction. In a density pattern for emitting light to the outside of the light-guide plates, the pattern density of light-guide plate cells is higher in the direction of advancement of the primary light, and the average density of the multiple light-guide plate cells of the light-guide plate assemblies is lower in the direction of advancement of the primary light.
