A video display system (10) is provided with: a screen (130) on which an image for displaying a virtual image is projected; a light source unit (110) for emitting laser light; a scanning unit (120) for causing the laser light to biaxially scan the screen, and projecting the image on the screen; and a control unit (100) for generating an image, controlling the light source unit (110) using an image signal for causing the generated image to be projected onto the screen by the laser light, receiving the input of sensing information measured using a temperature sensor (140), and controlling the scanning unit (120) in accordance with the received input of the sensing information. The control unit (100) sets the amplitude of the biaxial scanning in at least one axial direction thereof in the scanning unit (120) smaller when the sensing information indicates a temperature outside a predetermined temperature range compared to when the sensing information indicates a second brightness or a temperature that is within the predetermined temperature range.
