Abstract:
Provided are: a vinylpyridine resin for catalyst carriers, which exhibits excellent heat resistance, abrasion resistance, and catalytic activity for a catalyst on which rhodium is carried; a method for producing same; and a catalyst for use in a methanol carbonylation reaction. This vinylpyridine resin has: a pyridine-derived nitrogen content of 3.00-8.00 mass%; a degree of cross-linkage of 35-70 mol%; a mole ratio C/N of 12.00-36.00 between carbon atoms and nitrogen atoms; a total pore volume of 0.20-0.45 cc/g; a specific surface area of 70.0-280 m2/g; and an average pore diameter of 5.0-25.0 nm, wherein the volume of the pores having a pore diameter of at least 10 nm accounts for 4.0-90.0% of the total pore volume.
