Disclosed in the present application are a virtual item using method and apparatus, a device, a medium and a program product, belonging to the field of man-computer interaction. The method comprises: displaying a virtual character which has a grappling hook item and is located in a virtual environment, and a first use control (302); in response to a first trigger operation on the first use control, displaying a picture of the virtual character launching the grappling hook item to a first position, and a picture of the virtual character being dragged by the grappling hook item to move towards the first position (304); in response to a second trigger operation on the first use control, displaying a picture of the first use control being switched to a first wheel control (306); and in response to a direction selection operation on the first wheel control, displaying a viewing angle picture after an observation viewing angle is changed on the basis of the direction selection operation (308). In the present application, by utilizing a hidden control, the viewing angle is converted during the process of dragging the virtual character to move by the grappling hook item, so that the proportion of the control on a user interface is reduced.
