Abstract:
A washing machine according to an embodiment comprises: a drum; a motor which rotates the drum; a motor driver which supplies a driving current to the motor; a current sensor which senses the driving current; a water supply device which supplies water to the drum; and a controller which controls the water supply device to perform a plurality of water supply strokes, and controls the motor driver to perform a plurality of material detection strokes, wherein the controller performs, in response to one water supply stroke from among the plurality of water supply strokes, one material detection stroke from among the plurality of material detection strokes, generates a plurality of pieces of input data on the basis of a value of the driving current sensed during the plurality of material detection strokes, and determines the material of laundry accommodated in the drum, on the basis of the plurality of pieces of input data.
