Abstract:
Provided are a washing machine and a method for controlling the washing machine. The washing machine may comprise: a cabinet that forms the exterior of the washing machine; a tub formed inside the cabinet; a living organism sensor that detects a living organism inside the washing machine through a millimeter wave radar; and at least one processor. The at least one processor may receive a request for activating a remote control mode of the washing machine from an external device through a communication interface. The at least one processor may activate the living organism sensor upon request. The at least one processor may receive a detection signal regarding the presence or absence of a living organism inside the washing machine from the living organism sensor. The at least one processor may transmit, on the basis of the received detection signal, information about the presence or absence of a living organism inside the washing machine to the external device through the communication interface.
