Abstract:
A water-barrier material (water-barrier tape) for layer twisted communication cables of copper-metal type and optical fiber loose tube type which can maintain its water-barrier property when the material is wound around a communication cable comprising twisted bundles of conductors or fibers and permitted to appropriately enter the gaps between the bundles of twisted wires. This material has a two-layer structure composed of a sheet substrate and a water absorbing material layer formed on the sheet substrate or a three-layer structure composed of a sheet substrate, a water absorbing material layer, and cover cloth formed on the water absorbing material layer. The rigidity value of the material in the longitudinal direction lies in a range of 0.3-1.5 gfcm2/cm and that in the lateral direction in a range of 0.2-0.5 gfcm2/cm.
