Abstract:
Provided is a water-based ink composition for a ballpoint pen, the ink composition having exceptional ink discharge properties when starting writing (writing-start properties) even if the nib is exposed for an extended period of time. The water-based ink composition for a ballpoint pen is characterized by: being constituted by (a) a polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether unit represented by formula (I), (b) a maleic anhydride unit, and (c) a styrene unit; the composition ratio of these units being (a):(b):(c) = 25-75:25-75:0-50; and containing at least 0.1-5 mass% of a grafted product of an allyl alcohol/maleic anhydride/styrene copolymer having a mass average molecular weight of 1000-50,000 and a polyoxyalkylene monoalkyl alcohol, 5-40 mass% of resin particles, and water. (In formula (I), R represents a C1-5 alkyl group, and m is a positive integer from 5-50.)
