Provided is a wavelength conversion member which can easily convert the wavelength of laser light outputted from a laser irradiation device to a different wavelength and amplify the laser light, even if the laser irradiation device produces only low output. A wavelength conversion member (30) comprises a laser light guide (32) which includes a core part (36) for guiding laser light and a cladding (37) disposed around the core part. The core part (36) on one end side of the laser light guide (32) is doped with a mixture of liquid silica and a wavelength conversion substance to create a Raman wavelength conversion portion (34) in which the wavelength conversion substance is diffused and in which a portion of the diffused wavelength conversion substance couples with the Si in the liquid silica. When laser light enters the Raman wavelength conversion portion (34), the Raman effect based on the wavelength conversion substance is produced inside of the Raman wavelength conversion portion (34), and as a result thereof laser light is outputted, the laser light based on Raman scattered light having a wavelength different from the wavelength of the laser light as a result of wavelength conversion.
