Disclosed is a wavelength conversion member (10A) that is provided with: a light transmissive member (13), which includes a light input surface (11) having excitation light (100) inputted thereto, and an output surface (12) having wavelength converted light (200) outputted therefrom; and a semiconductor fine particle phosphor (14), which is dispersed in the light transmissive member (13), and which absorbs the excitation light (100), converts the wavelength, and emits light. The dispersion concentration of the semiconductor fine particle phosphor (14) in the direction parallel to the light traveling direction, i.e., the direction connecting the light input surface (11) and the light output surface (12), is lower than the dispersion concentration of the semiconductor fine particle phosphor (14) in the direction that orthogonally intersects the light traveling direction.
