Description:
WEIGHT COVER

The present invention concerns a weight cover for therapeutic treatment comprising fibre material to increase the weight of the cover.

Sleep difficulties are widespread in today's society. For many years weight covers have been used for therapeutic treatment for people suffering from autism, ADHD, anxiety and many more reasons. The aim of the present invention is to provide a weight cover for any body in need of it.

According to the invention a weight cover for therapeutic treatment comprising fibre ma terial to increase the weight of the cover provided. The weight cover comprises a first and a second layer united in a way to provide channels arranged in parallel along or orthogonally to the length of the weight cover. The channels being directly filled with fibre material with- out any enclosing material, and the channels being closed in each end when the weight cover is completed. The fibres having a length corresponding to the length of the channels or the fibres are weaved into a weave or fabric which is arranged in the channels. Such a weight cover will be possible to produce in a cost-effective way and may be used at other times than sleeping, for example, covering the legs during resting or watching television or be used over the shoulders. Thus, the weight cover can be used in many diverse situations.

According to an embodiment of the weight cover is built up by at least two cover parts attachable and detachable by means of uniting means where the uniting means are ar ranged orthogonally to the length of the weight cover. Preferably, the weight cover com- prises three cover parts. Thus, it is possible to use smaller pieces of the cover, which could be more suitable for example over the shoulders.

According to an embodiment of the weight cover the weave or fabric may be cut into strips having a length corresponding to the length of the channels and at least one strip is provided within the channel. Instead it is conceivable that the weave or fabric is folded or rolled up in lengths corresponding to the length of the channels. This is an effective way of handling the weight giving fibres.

The present invention will now be described in more detail under referral to the accompa- nying drawings, in which

Fig.lshows an embodiment of a weight cover having channels along the full length of the cover in the length direction.

Fig. 2a shows an embodiment of filling of a channel in a cross-sectional view.

Fig. 2b shows the embodiment of Fig. 2a in a detail cut-away view.

w Fig. 2c shows an embodiment with an end cap arranged at the ends of the fibres.

Fig. 3a shows an embodiment of filling for a channel.

Fig. 3b shows the embodiment of filling of Fig. 3a in a channel in a cross-sectional view.

Fig. 4 shows an embodiment of a weight cover having channels in the direction of the length of the cover and two uniting means orthogonally thereto in a plan view.

15

In Fig. 1 an embodiment of the present invention a weight cover made up by two layers is shown. A first layer 1 is shown in the view from above. The second layer 2 is hidden in this view but can be seen in Fig. 2a and Fig. 3b. The two layers 1, 2 are united in any suitable way, for example by means of stitching 3, making up channels 4. The channels 4 may be0 arranged along the length of the weight cover, as in Fig. 1, or orthogonally to the length of the weight cover.

In the channels 4 the fibre material 7 which gives the weight to the weight cover is provided. The fibre material 7 is provided in the channel 4, built up by the first 1 and second 2 layers,5 without any enclosing material such as a tube or bag around the fibre material. Thus, it is directly provided inside the channel 4. The ends 8 of the channels 4 are closed when the weight cover is completed so that the fibre material 7 cannot escape from the channels 4. It is also conceivable to additionally provide other types of fibres arranged for keeping a person warm, such as wadding, preferably in an extra layer over the cover. In Figs. 2a and b, the fibre material 7 is shown as separate fibres arranged along the whole length of the channel 4. In Fig. 2a a cross-section of a channel 4 is shown and the fibres are shown as dots. According to desired weight of the cover the amount of fibres 7 may be chosen. It is also conceivable to provide the bundle of fibres with straps at chosen positions along the length of the fibres, for example with a distance of 10-15 cm between the straps (not shown). In Fig. 2c an embodiment is shown where end caps 9 are arranged at the free ends of the fibres 7. The material of the end caps 9 may for example be any kind of textile. Due to the end caps 9 it is easier to for example fixing the ends of the fibres in the channel 4 by sewing for instance, see the stitching 10 in Fig. 2c.

According to another embodiment the fibre material 7 may be weaved into a weave or fab ric. This weave or fabric may be cut into strips having the same length as the channels 4 and at least one fibre strip may be provided inside the channel 4. According to another embod iment the weave or fabric is folded or rolled up and provided inside the channels 4. The length of the folded or rolled up fibre fabric is corresponding to the length of the channel 4. In Fig. 3b a cross-section of a channel 4 is shown comprising a rolled-up fibre fabric 7.

The fibre material 7 may for example be a polymer, such as polyester. According to an embodiment the weight cover is built up by means at least two cover parts 5, in the preferred embodiment it is built up by three cover parts 5, see Fig. 4. The cover parts 5 are attached to each other by uniting means 6. The uniting means may be any suit able means, such as zippers, buttons or Velcro. In the shown embodiment the uniting means 6 are arranged orthogonally to the length of the weight cover. It is also conceivable to ar- range the at least one uniting means along the length of the weight cover.
